The airline industry continues to struggle with that thing out there, as another company has announced thousands of employees being furloughed next month.

United Airlines recently announced their plans to furlough 16,370 employees in October, as travel demand remains low and major airlines have been forced to cut staff and layoff employees.

This furlough will impact pilots, flight attendants, technicians, catering, contact center, management and administrative, and network operations center employees.

United is the latest airline forcing employees into unemployment, as American Airlines plans to furlough or lay off about 19,000 workers, and Delta Air Lines intends to furlough about 2,000 pilots in October.

Hopefully these airlines can get another stimulus boost like their first round of $25 billion in the CARES Act so that thousands of these vital workers are not forced into unemployment.

Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin testified before a House of Representatives subcommittee on Federal disaster relief funding, including extended enhanced unemployment benefits.

Mnuchin explained the need for more stimulus unemployment funds, stating: "I believe a bipartisan agreement still should be reached and would provide substantial funds for schools, PPP for small businesses, and continued enhanced unemployment benefits.”

He also placed the blame for high unemployment rates on Democratic states not reopening due to that thing out there.

Mnuchin explained: "I believe there is no question that the reason we have unemployment is that certain states are not opening up and that there are issues."

Mnuchin continued: "Yes, we would expect unemployment to drop significantly between now and the end of the year [with fewer reopening restrictions in states with Democratic leaders]."
