Unemployment Update 10-2-20: 59 Weeks? 14 States Run Out LWA Unemployment Benefits New Bill $600

The great state of Michigan provided some fantastic news for unemployment claimants in the state, allowing them to breathe a little easier

The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency announced that they will be lengthening the amount of weeks offered to unemployed citizens to a whopping 59 weeks.

Compare this to the typical 20 weeks offered by Michigan in any year but 2020, state unemployment claimants can expect to be paid into the next year.

For example, if someone became unemployed in April, they would be covered through May of 2021.

I hope that other states can jump on board with providing state unemployment claimants with funding through the rest of 2020 and into 2021, as we continue to recover slowly and require additional stimulus funds.

Meanwhile, the final jobs report before November’s election was released today, and September saw a nice boost in job numbers, but severely underperformed the estimates of those DOW Jones economists.

September saw nonfarm payrolls increase by 661,000 jobs, which is far short of the 800,000 positions estimated by the economists.

The unemployment rate fell to , which is better than expected when compared to the that the DOW Jones people guessed.

But these numbers are not a cause for celebration.

Drew Matus, chief market strategist for MetLife Investment Management, explained: “The issue is momentum, and I think we’re losing it. When you go through a significant disruption to the labor market, it takes time to fix itself.”

I completely agree, which is why we need to keep seeing employment rates rise, but also require additional extended enhanced unemployment benefits to help those still looking for a new job.

Finally, I’m hearing that 14 states have disbursed the entire 6 weeks of President Trump’s weekly $300/$400 LWA unemployment benefits.

I hope that everyone in Arizona, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, and Texas enjoyed these funds while they lasted.

We’re still waiting on Alaska, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, Virginia and Wisconsin to start paying their state’s unemployment claimants with $1,800 checks.

Hopefully they can start paying next week, as all of these states have been approved for LWA funding, and are due these benefits even though money is running out quickly.

If you still have not applied for unemployment benefits in your state, make your weekend even better by applying for these funds today.

Just provide your employment history, explain that you are currently out of work due to that thing out there, and you could receive a backdated check for more than $10,000!

To all the gig-workers, self employed, independent contractors, 1099 workers, even side hustlers and part time gigers, don’t dismiss this as money that you can’t claim due to not paying into unemployment insurance.

The PUA was created for people like you, so that you aren’t left in the cold without unemployment benefits.
