Tuesday Morning Hurricane Sally Update: Hurricane Sally returns to a Category 1 storm

As of the 1 AM Tuesday advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Sally returned to a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 90 mph. It is barely moving with the center 75 miles east of the mouth of the Mississippi River.

The forecast path shifted a little more east late Monday with a landfall expected near the Mississippi-Alabama state line early Wednesday.

Due to the more eastward path, forecast models are showing a dramatic drop-off in rain totals now for Louisiana with totals perhaps as little as .5-2 however, some high totals may still affect eastern coastal Mississippi where 10+ inches will be possible. The highest totals with Sally are now expected over far east Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.

Storm surge could still be an issue here, since Sally will hover to the southeast of our coastline through Tuesday.
